Topics Residential Methane Detectors & Gas Transmission Pipeline Safety by Consolidated Edison (Con Ed)
The Residential Methane Detectors is a cutting edge, pilot program that enhances residential customer’s safety by sending emergency signals to the Con Ed response center.
The Gas Transmission Pipeline Safety is a feature/implementation of the Pipeline Safety Management Mission to guide gas operations in achieving its Vision 2020 goals by establishing a systematic and holistic approach to people, pipeline and public safety.

Jonathan Diaz
Jonathan Diaz is an Engineer in the Gas Engineering Department with Con Ed since 2014. Prior to Con Ed Jonathan worked in the building construction industry with the Turner Construction Company in NYC. He is a mechanical engineer graduate from the City College of New York, class of 2008. For the past year, Jonathan has been working on a pilot program installing natural gas detectors in customer’s premises that can send a signal back to Con Ed emergency response center.

Christian Martinez
Christian Martinez is the section manager of Pipeline Safety Management, which oversees risk management programs for Gas Distribution and Transmission integrity as well as leads Con Edison’s implementation of a Pipeline Safety Management System for Gas Operations. Prior to this role, Chris was the Section Manager of Gas Transmission Engineering. He has nearly 16 years of experience and has held various positions in substation engineering, electric, gas, steam, and municipal construction projects throughout the Con Edison service territory.
Chris holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College and an MBA in Financial Management from Pace University. Chris is also a New York State Licensed Professional Engineer, American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector, completed Stony Brook’s Comprehensive Project Management program, and is an active member and founder of the American Association of Latinos in STEM.

Vincent Pastore
Vincent Pastore, PE is manager of the Gas Transmission Pipeline Integrity group at Consolidated Edison, where he leads a group of engineers and specialists in enhancing gas transmission pipeline safety and reliability by identifying, prioritizing, assessing, evaluating, repairing and validating the integrity of pipelines that could, in the event of a leak or failure, affect the CECONY service territory.
Vincent is a Manhattan College graduate with over 25 years of experience in the utility industry, infrastructure construction/engineering and pipeline integrity regulatory compliance.
In his spare time, he is very active in community service both at home in and our service territory. One of his most rewarding service activities is mentoring New York City students at Energy Tech Middle and High School in Queens where he works with students interested in STEM careers.
